The kids are doing great. Strangers at the grocery store or at the park can't believe how well they communicate. As one guy said, "My 8 year-old doesn't talk that much!". It's always nice to hear, especially since twins are supposed to develop language skills slower than other children. They're very very polite and say, "please", "thank you", and "I'm sorry" with almost no reminders. They're both exceptionally friendly as well. Ethan is a bit more outgoing on the conversational side and will say "hello" to anyone along with a friendly wave. Tenley prefers to launch into long-winded stories about whatever is on her mind once she feels that you're engaged in what she has to say.
Both of the kids have completely mastered the alphabet (although Q & R meld together in a pretty adorable manner). They can both count to 10...Ethan will venture as high as 20 these days, but generally leaves out 14 & 15 (who needs those anyways?). They're getting better at their colors but still seem to have their favorites; most things are red if you ask Tenley. Ethan is still a lot more sensitive and cautious, whereas Tenley will plow onward with any physical feat you put in front of her- she's a really good climber, but Ethan is more coordinated with jumping off of something that's been climbed.
Tenley does have a nurturing streak though, here's a quick cute story that happened the other day:
They were sitting at their little kids table eating popsicles and were told that they had to stay sitting or they had to move to highchairs. Ethan kept getting up, and eventually I took away his popsicle, which of course made him cry - a lot. He promised to sit and be good, so I gave it back (I'm a sucker, I know). Instead of eating it though, he just sat there staring at it and crying. At this point Tenley put her popsicle down and walked over to Ethan's side of the table and knelt down on one knee (just like Mommy) and started patting him on the back:
T: It's ok brother, you just have to listen to Mommy.
E: (continues crying)
T: Brother...it's ok. You just have to listen. It's ok.
E: (still crying)
T: (starts to get frustrated that he's not stopping- stands up and puts her hand gently over his mouth) That's about enough.
E: (still crying)
T: Shhh, that's about enough!
(then she got really upset too because her amazing tactics weren't working)
Both kiddos currently weigh EXACTLY the same: 25.6lbs. Ethan is taller, but obviously thinner (though they're both still tiny!)
They love fruit, which is fabulous. Tenley can't get enough salad, and if requests for seconds on dinner are ever made, it's for more salad or vegetables! They're not fans of potatoes. They prefer Cheerios and bananas or malt-o-meal and strawberries to anything like a muffin or donut. The other day I was clearing out leftovers for dinner and didn't make a vegetable (although there were baked beans, in my defense) When I gave them their plates Ethan looked at it and said, "Where's my vegetables?". I felt bad, but also am so proud that they eat so well.
They're just awesome! They definitely act up (mostly for Mommy and Daddy) but anyone who has ever babysat them just goes on and on about how well behaved they are!
Alrighty, well...if I think of other awesome things, I'll post them. I promise that I'll get pictures up soon.
