Yesterday we covered the coffee table with craft paper in the hopes of introducing the babies to the joys of coloring. We have the jumbo crayons for little hands, and were ready to go. We helped them hold the crayons and did some scribbling while holding their hands. They didn't seem interested at all, and couldn't quite figure it out.
Tenley decided after a very short while that putting the crayon in her mouth was a good idea. Lars quickly pulled her hand (and crayon) out of her mouth. She did it again. He stopped her. She started crying. She did it again. He stopped her. She kept crying. She did it again. He took the crayons away from her and put them in the box. This was too much. Tenley completely lost it. She was seriously upset and crying really hard. It wasn't a normal "you took something from me" cry, it was a serious injury cry. We were both trying to explain that she wasn't allowed to put the crayons in her mouth (the explaining did not help). We then happened to look over at Ethan. He was standing by the table, purple crayon in hand...and his lower lip sticking out further than I would have thought physically possible...he was so sad and close to tears that he was literally quivering. I wish I had taken a picture (though that wouldn't have been a very nice move at the time) because it was just the saddest face I've ever seen. I'm convinced that he was sad because his sister was clearly so upset. My mom thinks that he was worried that his crayon would soon be taken away, thus he was getting upset just in case. I don't think so...I'm sticking with my analysis. Poor little pumpkin, he's a bit on the sensitive side.
