The Puyallup Fair

We took the kids to the Puyallup Fair last Sunday (for those of you who don't live in WA, it's pronounced "pew-ah-lup") It's about 50 miles south of us, so it was kind of a big deal for a day trip. We had the kids take an early nap and headed out of the house around 2:30. I'm glad we didn't go earlier in the day because it ended up being really hot (near 90 degrees + humidity). I was beginning to worry for a while because the kids were all flush-faced and sweaty. It cooled down around 6:00 though, and the kids had an absolute blast!

As you can tell from the pictures, we wore out Thing 1, Thing 2, Thing 3 and Thing 4 shirts that Lars got last year at Universal Studios. Pretty much everyone we passed commented on the shirts, or asked where we got them!

Pretty face paint that just took about 15 seconds to apply...it was done with a stencil and an airbrush, and it was FREE!!

This rooster was sleeping, so Tenley is singing to it...which woke the rooster up.

On the ferris wheel about 20 seconds before they decided Tenley was actually too short, so they kicked us off. Made pretty much NO sense to me...whatever Puyallup Fair, we'll be back next year with taller kids!

This is a little train that did a loop around the little kid area of the fair, they loved it. We rode 3 times at least...maybe 4, I don't remember!

This is Ethan's new smile, it involves only lower teeth and looks pretty viscious!

Tenley was technically about half an inch short for all of the rides, but some of the carnies were nicer than others. The lady running the helicopters was suckered by Tenley's good manners. While I was explaining that I knew that she'd be good and stay seated, Tenley looked up at the lady and said, "Can I ride the helicopter, please?" The lady melted into a puddle...and then, of course, let her ride the helicopter!

The nice thing about the distinctive shirts we were all wearing was that once they let Tenley on a ride they tended to remember us, so if we got on the same ride a second time we didn't have to be sneaky and beg!

This "ride" was a small obstacle course that ended with this ball-pit. Tenley decided to get cozy, take off her shoes, and not come out. I had to crawl under the turnstile at the end of the course and go backwards through it to retrieve her. She was NOT happy about that at all!

This canoe ride was fun, it was kind of a lazy river kind of ride, but we were able to walk along side of the entire course, which made me feel a lot better about it. There was pretty much no way they could tip their canoe, but still...it was nice that we could walk next to them the whole time.

Neither of the kids liked their cotton candy...so the humidity just slowly dissolved it until we threw it away!
We ended up leaving aroun 9 or 9:30pm. It was a long day and Tenley had had enough. Ethan stayed awake for the entire car ride home! They had a great time, and so did we. We're definitely going back next year!
